Austin Counseling is all about handling teens and their families. When parents are overwhelmed or are a bit worried about the route their teens have taken, the best thing is to seek for outside help. Parents do not have to feel helpless and beaten anymore; know that the teenage years for your children are filled with many changes and many young adults find it very difficult to cope. It has been found that individual counseling for the teen, even to include the family, goes a long way in alleviating the problems. Austin counseling will give you a friend who is willing to talk to and counsel your child and give you a shoulder to lean on at this trying period of growth.
What benefits can be derived from the Lora Ferguson Counseling:
(1) Specialization in aiding teenagers to go through the changes brought about by their growth which causes them some discomfort. Helping them attain healthier relationships with their family members and friends. The goal here is to restore peace and joy in the lives of the teenagers and their families. To do this, they provide the following:
· A free 20 minute phone consultation service.
· Flexible appointment times; including Saturdays and evenings.
· A safe and confidential atmosphere.
(2) Counseling helps the youth to develop trust and connection is built between the client and the counselor. The procedure can take time, some motivation and setting realistic expectations or goals. It is worth pointing out that some families get satisfactory and encouraging results after only six sessions, while others will take longer.
(3) A program is set after a 20 minute initial phone consultation. In collaboration with the family, the counselor develops some specific goals and guidelines for the family. It could be weekly, bi-monthly or even monthly sessions with the family or the individual.
(4) The first consultation takes 50 minutes which is not a counseling session as such, but an opportunity to air the issues that have been causing concern. It is also an opportunity to discuss and decide whether one should continue with the consultations or not. You will notice here that Lora is a compassionate listener and connects with teens easily because of her care and genuine nature.
Lora has spent many years counseling teens and she has a wonderful ability to win their trust and confidence. They enjoy working with Lora towards the achievement of their goals. There is a good chance that one will walk away from these counseling sessions feeling more connected to their teens and with better prospects of good Relationship with their teenagers.

Counseling and Community: Using Church Relationships to Reinforce Counseling $24.95 “Traditionally, counseling has focused primarily on the individual–overlooking the interaction between the community and the individual. Wilson has created a biblically-based counseling model that anchors the individual within the community. The result is a perspective that encompasses all aspects of a person’s life, where the community becomes a helper in the counseling process. The thesis of this book is tied to the assumption that we need a counseling approach that is community-oriented rather than exclusively focused on the individual. When this is the case, we will be able to appreciate the biblical emphasis on the people of God. While he prizes a relationship with individuals, God’s heart is with a body, a fellowship, a community. Both pastors and private counselors need to reaffirm the priority of community and its power in the healing process. Rod Wilson (PhD, York University) is President and Professor of Counselling and Psychology at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He is also the author of Exploring Your Anger and Helping Angry People.” |

Strategies for Brief Pastoral Counseling $18 “More and more professionals in ministry realized the benefits of brief pastoral counseling-typically three sessions-for addressing the real-life dilemmas of their congregants. In this very helpful resource, eleven leaders in pastoral counseling-both established leaders and new thinkers in the field-offer a convincing rationale. Based on reserach, case studies, and the latest thinking, they lay out (1) the dynamics of the pastor- parishioner relationship, including the need for collaborative, hospitable, future-oriented, and wholistic counseling, and (2) specific strategies, including brief counseling’s solution-focused method, its relation to spiritual direction, its focus on people’s strengths, and time limits. The volume concludes with a call for the whole field to recognize the contextual, practical character of effective, responsible pastoral counseling.” |

Effective Biblical Counseling $18.99 “EFFECTIVE BIBLICAL COUNSELING.”Many of the people we deal with in counseling are hiding behind all sorts of defensive overlays designed to protect a fragile sense of self-acceptance or to prevent further rejection or failure from reaching an already crippled self-identity. Counseling involves a stripping away of the layers, sometimes gently sometimes forcefully, to reach the real person underneath.’”My thesis is that problems develop when the basic needs for significance and security are threatened. People pursue irresponsible ways of living as a means of defending against feelings of insignificance and insecurity. In most cases these folks have arrived at a wrong idea as to what constitutes significance and security.”Counseling is relationship. Relationship interactions vary depending on the temperaments, problems, personalities of the people involved. With some you adopt a professional air, with others a relaxed, friendly mood. With some you directly teach, with others you ramblingly explore. With some you assign specific behavioral homework assignments, with others you subtly encourage broad affective or attitudinal changes.”s.”" |

Music Festival – Austin, TX 09.23.05 $10.95 Gov’t MuleMusic Festival09.23.05Austin, TX Austin in the Fall. What could be better? Little dusty, little hot, but lots of fun! At one of the best put together music festivals ever, the Mule showed up in a different form. Because Danny Louis was mourning a family loss, none other than the infamous John Medeski got the call to fill in. Seemingly right at home behind Danny’s rig, Medeski did a remarkable job. A classic “Hammer & Nails” got the show rolling, and was followed by a ripping “Thorazine.” Maybe it was the shear power coming off the stage, maybe it was a bad generator, but no matter what made the PA shut off a few times during this song, it didn’t hinder the band ripping away. Warren and John’s great relationship as musicians and friends was evident as they led the rhythm section to wondrous places during an amazing “Sco-Mule.” Even the intro to “Soulshine” was played flawlessly by John who even extended it a little. Not the normal keyboardist, Not the normal Mule show. Short but sweet, this one is a keeper! NOTE:The sound system went out twice, both times for about 10 seconds, during “Thorazine Shuffle.” The show is still complete thanks to Lee Hart’s audience copy, which was spliced in at these places. Psychology Of Counseling $22.99 “The first 26 chapters of the book present the basic concepts and techniques of counseling with interesting and appropriate illustrations. A further chapter gives a thorough-going and inspiring presentation of the effective use of scripture in counseling. Here the reader is challenged to use the Word of God and is shown how to use it effectively. This comprehensive chapter concludes with a list of several hundred of the most appropriate Scripture portions to be used with some 20 different types of personality and spiritual problems. Another section of the book deals with four particular areas of counseling: Counseling with Teen-agers, Counseling with the Emotionally and Mentally Ill, Marriage Counseling, and Counseling about Sex Problems. Realistic situations in each of the above categories are pointed up. Interesting case studies are presented to illustrate the problem; then basic guides in counseling are suggested. Probably o other book contains a more meaningful chapter on terms that counselors should know than does Dr. Narramore’s comprehensive work. Each term is defined, explained, amplified, and in many instances, illustrated with appropriate reference to spiritual concerns. The Psychology of Counseling will provide both professional and lay counselors with one of the most comprehensive guidebooks ever published and with the most usable concepts of counseling yet available.” |

The Road to Relationship $11.99 “Chronicling the personal struggles of one man to find the true center of his Christianityan intimate relationship with GodThe Road to Relationship is an honest account of author Andy Allens own search for his true faith. By identifying the mistaken focuses of his faith, Allen generalizes these struggles to all Christians and describes how the same struggles existed in the lives of our biblical predecessors. Many of the unique issues that arise as man attempts to become intimate with God, such as the need for self-expression, the role of our emotions, and the part that circumstances play in this relationship, are addressed with a candor any walk of life can relate to. Looking at relationship from both the human and divide perspective, The Road to Relationship is a personal look at the desperate pursuit to understand the principles of a meaningful and satisfying relationship with our God.” |

Brief Pastoral Counseling $17 “Most pastoral counselors, clergy, and psychotherapists assume that truly effective counseling requires months or even years. Research suggests otherwise. Studies have provided two startling findings. First, most persons come for four or fewer counseling sessions, whatever the counseling method employed. Second, the majority of any counseling’s effectiveness occurs in the opening few sessions. Part One uses brief pastoral counseling as a framework for detailing specific issues and approaches: getting the problem clear, assigning homework between sessions, and focusing on strengths. Part Two connects many of the typical problems encountered in parish ministry to specific counseling interventions which work in only a few sessions. Using many examples formulated out of Stone’s years of counseling experience, it allows the reader to visualize each approach and make use of it as a counseling strategy.” |

Strategic Biblical Counseling $15.99 “If you have been waiting for someone to write a practical and effective book on Biblical counseling, this book is for you Christians today are seeking professional psychological services in increasing numbers. The local church has always been a community resource for people in emotional need, but Christian psychology has marginalized pastoral and Biblical counseling. It is time to return the ministry of pastoral counseling to the church. What Christian counselors need is a model of biblical counseling that is simple, doctrinally sound, and strategic. Dr. Burts says: I journeyed away from God because of confusion about my identity in Christ. Upon discovering these truths, I became impassioned to advance personal spiritual growth in the church through the ministry of Biblical counseling. I have used the principles of Strategic Biblical Counseling for many years with great success. People are changed as they understand who they are and what they have “in Christ.”" |

Theology Of Christian Counseling $18.99 “A Theology of Christian Counseling is a book that connects biblical doctrine with practical living. Salvation, that central concern of Protestant theology, is often too narrowly defined. It is thought to be “being saved from the consequences of sin.” But God is doing much more. He is making something new out of the old sinful nature. He is, in Christ, making new creatures. “No counseling system that is based on some other foundation can begin to offer what Christian counseling offers . . . No matter what the problem is, no matter how greatly sin has abounded, the Christian counselor’s stance is struck by the far-more-abounding nature of the grace of Jesus Christ in redemption. What a difference this makes in counseling!” In this book the reader will gain an insight into the rich theological framework that supports and directs a biblical approach to counseling. And the connection between solid theology and practical application will become compelling. This is a one-of-a-kind. Don’t ignore it!” |

Counseling for Spiritually Empowered Wholeness $18.95 “Counseling for Spiritually Empowered Wholeness is an introduction to Wholeness Counseling (also called Growth Counseling), a whole-person approach to pastoral counseling, psychotherapy, and education as developed by Howard Clinebell. He begins the book by emphasizing how the role of healthy spirituality and reality-based hope is crucial to facilitate healing and growth in all dimensions of life. He encourages readers to apply the principles and methods in the book to their own growth and to develop their own growth-centered approaches–approaches that reflect their particular styles and personalities–to counseling, therapy, and education. This newly revised edition of Growth Counseling makes readily available an understanding of the Wholeness Counseling approach and its methods for both pastoral and secular counselors and professional and nonprofessional readers. Dr. Clinebell has a psychological understanding of the universal human need for healthy spirituality and, as he writes from this perspective, he opens doors for readers to distinguish healthy from unhealthy religion and provides them with methods to enhance their own spiritual health. Readers who desire to explore the Wholeness Counseling approach will find that Counseling for Spiritually Empowered Wholeness guides them through: >insights and methods they can use to accelerate their personal and professional growth in each of the seven dimensions of life>the roots in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures of this approach which helps readers grow and be healed>the importance of playfulness to balance work in a healthy lifestyleThe primary target audience is theological seminary teachers and students, clergy in all denominations, members of congregations who work in the healing and helping professions, and laypersons interested in learning ways to enhance their own wholeness or being trained to serve on lay pastoral care teams. Others who will benefit from Counseling for Spiritually Empowered Wholeness include those in the counseling, healing, and teaching professions who wish to know more about a growth-oriented approach which includes a robust emphasis on the role of healthy spirituality for total well being.” |

Biblical Counseling for Today $29.99 “>In his preface to this challenging book Jeff Watson describes biblical counseling as “a noble adjective married to a nervous noun.”>Believers are wise to be skeptical of much that is done in the name of counseling in secular settings. Even under the umbrella of “Christian counseling,” one has heard horror stories of cases where God’s Word has been misused. But Jeff Watson makes a strong case in this volume for the legitimacy of marrying “biblical” and “counseling.”>Christian counselors, says Watson, need to cultivate three fundamental skills in their patients: How to tell their stories; How to choose their goals wisely; andHow to practice changes in their lives.>Watson helps counselors achieve these goals by drawing on the interactions of Christ, the commands of Scripture, and the actions of the apostles and prophets. Thus he marries counseling and biblical principles.>To those of us who are called on to counsel on any level, Charles Swindoll says, “This book will become an invaluable tool for you. I urge you to let it become your manual for proper counseling.”" |

Counseling and Psychotherapy: A Christian Perspective $39.99 “Combining cutting-edge expertise with deeply rooted Christian insights, this text from a leading figure in the Christian counseling community offers readers a comprehensive survey of ten major counseling and psychotherapy approaches. He then critiques the approach from a Christian perspective. Tan also includes hypothetical transcripts of interventions for each major approach to help readers get a better sense of the clinical work involved. This book presents a Christian approach to counseling and psychotherapy that is Christ centered, biblically based, and Spirit filled.” |

Critical Stages of Biblical Counseling $24 “Getting Started: The First Session of Biblical Counseling What you do in the first session will set the tone for what follows–for good or for ill. It will help the counselee gain confidence in your ministry to him and–what is of greater importance–in the Word of God and the God of the Word. Breaking Through: The Turning Point of Biblical Counseling The turning point is crucial because true Christian change always involves a closer approximation of the thoughts and the life of the counselee to the “thoughts” and the “ways” of God as these are set forth in the Bible. Finishing Well: The Termination of Biblical Counseling This final book has to do with closing out a series of counseling sessions–how you know when to do so, how you do it, how you can make certain that you have done the right thing, and how you may follow up.” |

The Practical Encyclopedia of Christian Counseling $20 “For some time the Biblical counseling world has needed a reference volume containing articles that refer to the various aspects of Christian counseling. Here Jay Adams, the father of Nouthetic counseling, sets forth in concise form what you need to know. The book is not academically oriented; rather it is a practical work in which insights, directions, and methodology may be found side-by-side with exegetically sound teaching. While many encyclopedias are voluminous, this book aims at being comprehensive while remaining usable by the practicing pastor or counselor. It is a valuable tool for informal as well as formal instruction in biblical counseling. From the Preface: The Practical Encyclopedia of Christian Counseling is designed to afford Christian counselors quick reference as well as comprehensive access to the chief principles and practices of biblical counseling. It is called an “encyclopedia” because a counselor interested in surveying the gamut of those principles and practices will find in this volume a wider variety of subjects than may be located in any other book of biblical counseling. The counseling described here is truly “Christian.” with method and content firmly rooted in careful biblical exegesis. At the same time it is “practical” because articles consist not merely of definitions and descriptions, but also of application of the material useful to Christian counselors. Although not necessarily the only way these biblical principles can be applied, they are the fruit of years of study and experience in biblical counseling. In short, the book is designed as an aid to the working counselor who needs a quick reference guide. We trust that God will use it to His gloryand to the blessing of His people.” |

Competency Based Counseling $16 “This book demonstrates how counselors can help people to use the resources they already have so they can address issues that come up in life.
